Over the years of working in literally hundreds of compressor / engine rooms we have noticed a correlation between the cleanliness and neatness of the compressor room and the general operation of the refrigeration system. The neater the compressor room the better it works!
Based on our experience here are a few things you can do:

- Keep the compressor room clean and neat. The only things that should be in the compressor room are those items directly related to the refrigeration system. The compressor room is not a storage place for seasonal advertising, empty boxes, snow blowers, and miscellaneous junk.
- Do some simple maintenance. If you see a pipe support or hanger that is loose and rattling on the pipe – tighten it. If an electrical conduit has come loose and the wiring is exposed – get it repaired before it becomes a more significant event. If someone else has turned your compressor room into their attic – get them to clean up their mess.
- Walk through your compressor room at least daily and use your eyes, ears, and nose to get a sense of how it is operating. You will be surprised at how you will be able to discover a problem and facilitate a repair before it becomes a major incident. A clean and neat compressor room will enable you to do this, but a cluttered room will not.
- Problems rarely fix themselves. If you notice something unusual deal with it promptly – “let’s see what it’s like tomorrow” generally isn’t a good solution to a problem.
Our service technicians will also feel better about providing good service if they know that you do your best to take care of your refrigeration system.
